Any of a family (Trachinidae) of marine bony fishes of the perch family, especially the genus Trachinus, with poison glands on the dorsal fin and gill cover that can give a painful sting. It grows up to 5 cm/2 in long, has eyes near the top of the head, and lives on sandy seabeds.
